Let’s answer your QUESTIONS

We are a small friendly practice.

Anything else you want to know, just ask us.

What should I wear to my treatment and will I need to undress?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing. We may ask you to move or take off some clothing to allow us to examine, assess and treat you, but only if you are comfortable with this. If you are not, we will work around as best we can.

Where can I park?

Crediton: Free on street parking on the High Street, including outside our door, is for 45 minutes. This is too short for initial consultations and tight for our 45 minute follow ups though many patients do use this. We are situated opposite St Saviours Way.

Exeter: All the city centre car parks and the Southernhay on street metered parking are within walking distance of the practice. We have a disabled parking place on our forecourt. We are situated opposite St. Saviours Way with its large pay and display car park.

Do you have disabled access?

Crediton: We are on the ground floor and the practice is reached via a corridor from the High Street door. There are three single steps along this corridor and one in our yard. We have grab rails in the yard and in our toilet. The door into the yard is at a slight angle to the wall and can be tricky but is accessible for buggies, prams and wheelchairs. We can help you in and out, if necessary.

Exeter: We are on the ground floor and access is possible ‘on the flat’ from the city centre avoiding steps. Our forecourt is gravelled but patients using buggies, prams and wheelchairs have found it accessible. We may need to raise a barrier to the forecourt for you, so please ask about this in advance, if possible. We have a disabled parking space outside the door. Please ask regarding access and use of this parking space. Our toilet at the Exeter practice is down a short flight of stairs so access is limited.

Where are you?

Crediton: Our High Street entrance is opposite St. Saviours Way, between 99 and 100 High Street (The Crediton Mobility Centre and @100 Cafe) with Tanners’ Yard painted above the door and our signs above and next to the door. Come through the front door and walk all the way to the end of the corridor past Creedy Kitchen. Go through the door at the end of the corridor into Tanners’ Yard and our waiting Room door is on your right. Take a seat and your practitioner will find you when they are ready to see you.

Exeter: From the High Street turn into Bedford Street opposite the silver Obelisk sculpture. Walk ahead past the entrance to Princesshay on your left and Costa coffee and Wagamama on your right. On the right is a glass block opposite the closed Debenhams building. Just past this glass block and between it and the closed Cafe Rouge there is a gap.
From the Southernhay end of Bedford Street, opposite Barnfield Road, walk towards the High Street until you reach this same gap between the buildings on your left.
Looking through this gap towards the Cathedral you will see Notaries House, our building, directly in front of you and sitting in front of the Cathedral. Walk through this gap and down the steps, across Chapel Street and across our forecourt to the front door. We are on the ground floor. Press both of the bottom two buzzers for the Sustainable Health Centre.

What’s the difference between an osteopath and a chiropractor?

There are many small differences between osteopaths and chiropractors but as a whole the two professions work in similar ways, use similar techniques and treat the same sort of problems. There are often greater differences between two practitioners from the same profession than there are between one osteopath and one chiropractor.

As a generalisation, osteopaths use a wider range of gentler techniques and when we manipulate we use longer levers and patients’ experience of this is usually less traumatic.

Will I get some treatment at my first visit?

After taking your case history, examining you, discussing our findings, your expectations and what we can do to help, there is usually time for treatment at the first session, if it is appropriate. Occasionally, there is not time and sometimes it is important to arrange other investigations first or recommend a different approach instead.

Do you have to manipulate /click my back or neck?

No! We use a wide range of techniques including ‘manipulation’ and we will tell you what we think will help you best, but there are always different ways to treat and we will find techniques which suit your needs.

Will treatment hurt? I am worried that I am in too much pain to have treatment.

Osteopathy utilises a wide range of hands on techniques. We almost never find that we have to delay treatment. People who come in with acute pain are usually surprised how much we can do, how comfortable they find it and how much better they feel after the treatment. Many techniques we use are very gentle and relaxing. Most will not cause pain nor trigger or worsen any pain you come in with. Some of the techniques are strong and deep and can be tender, but people usually describe this as a good pain which feels like it is helping. We will always find a way to work with you which you are comfortable and happy with.
